The Anytime Fitness Lenoir staff wanted to be a more involved part of the Caldwell County community.
Plus they all like physically demanding challenges, competition, and team-work.
So why not build an entire obstacle course race from scratch? We named the event the Anytime Fitness Games because there are more activities than regular obstacles. Puzzle solving, dexterity, and games were combined with the average speed and strength tasks found in other OC races.
Each year, a new charity or program which benefits the community is carefully chosen to donate all proceeds too. The staff then work with members and businesses within the community to get sponsors and volunteers and begin the annual process of building the obstacles, planning the course, and getting the word out!
After 2022's event, Shepherds for Sheepdogs, AF staff chose this topic to continue donating too. We changed the name from the AFG to the Shepherds for Sheepdogs OCR in order to better promote the cause.
To provide professionally trained service dogs to veterans/first responders who struggle with 50% or higher PTSD or TBI.
2018 featured our kickoff of the AFG. Gold Sponsorship from Chick-fil-A, Smith Crossroads and all other proceeds supported the Exceptional Children's Program of Caldwell County.
2019 brought new sponsors, new obstacles, and new team challenges to be completed by teams of 4. Gold Sponsorship from Blue Ridge Energy, LLC. Propane and Fuels and all other proceeds supported The Caldwell House - a Caldwell Organization to promote sober living.
2020 was pushed to 2021 due to COVID restrictions, but once we had it, Blue Ridge Energy LLC. was our top sponsor for the course - all proceeds went to the Robin's Nest to help abused children in Caldwell County.
2022 was our BIGGEST event yet! Foothills Jeep Brigade hosted a Jeep show, Carolina Car Company provided BBQ, Liquid Roots brought their various drinks (ALL fantastic, go check them out!), and a Cornhole tournament. At the end of the day, our sponsors, spectators, participants, and volunteers helped to raise $22,000.00!!! This allowed us to get 6 service dogs for deserving candidates! We decided that veterans and first responders would remain our focus for future events, thus the AFG changed to S4S!
2023 provided a NEW VENUE at Hart;s Farm. The new terrain proved quite a challenge to the participants, but everyone finished with a smile. Once again, S.T.A.T, Blue Ridge Energy, and Lenoir Printing stepped up to be major donors. Liquid Roots and Anywhere'z Fine BBQ provided the delicious food. Enough money was raised to purchase 5 dogs! 3 Veterans have already received their dogs and we are on the hunt for the remaining two!
